What is Titanium?
Titanium is a natural
element which has a silver-greyish-white colour.
Titanium is the hardest natural metal in the
world. It is very strong, three times the
strength of steel and much stronger than gold
silver and platinum and yet is very light
weight. Pure titanium is also 100%
hypoallergenic which means that it if safe for
anyone to wear as it will not react to your
skin. Why choose titanium? Titanium provides
several unique factors that make it the ideal
metal for jewellery rings. It is very strong,
more dent, bend and scratch resistant than gold,
silver and platinum, is lightweight and
importantly offers an exotic array of colours
which other metals simply do not. Our titanium
is also 100% hypoallergenic and will not produce
skin irritation or discolouration. What grade of
titanium do you use in your titanium jewellery?
We use 99.9% pure commercial grade titanium. Our
titanium is pure and of surgical implant quality
which means that it is hypoallergenic and
allergy free. Is titanium hypoallergenic? Pure
titanium is 100% hypoallergenic and allergy free
and will not produce skin irritation or
discolouration. Pure titanium does not react to
sunlight, salt water or anything that the body
emits. This is why we only offer pure titanium
to our clients. We do not use other metal alloys
with our titanium to ensure only the purest and
safest titanium is used in our rings. We use
pure titanium with confidence knowing that
everyone can wear it without the concern of an
adverse reaction to your body.
What is Tungsten
Carbide?
Tungsten is the only rare
and exotic metal that can remain permanently
polished. With gold, platinum and tungsten, you
will notice slight scratches or dents. However,
with tungsten carbide, the surface will maintain
it's original high polish. Tungsten Carbide is
the most wear resistant of all known metals.
Tungsten is about 10 times harder than 18K Gold,
5 times harder than tool steel, and 4 times
harder than titanium. Tungsten measures between
8 and 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. (Diamonds
are a 10 which is the highest.) Our Tungsten
jewellery are cobalt free as cobalt causes
allergies. The Manufacturing Process of Tungsten
with carbon is that it is ground into a powder
and then compressed with high pressure dies to
form a jewellery piece blank. The blank is then
placed in an oxygen free furnace at an
astounding 6,200 degrees fahrenheit. This
process called sintering creates the hardest
metal used bracelet/pendant making jewelry. The
piece is then cut and shaped using diamond tools
with approximately 30 steps required for
completion. The cutting and shaping of tungsten
carbide jewelry is similar in many ways to
cutting and polishing of a rough diamond. The
piece is then skillfully polished with diamond
polishing tools and wheels creating a permanent
luster and polish not possible with other
metals. Tungsten Carbide jewellery will remain
polished forever. It is a unique metal that is
enjoyed by men in particular. What's the
difference between Tungsten jewelry and Tungsten
Carbide jewelry? A Tungsten only piece is
basically only steel. It is hard, but NOT
scratch proof. A Tungsten Carbide bracelet can
only be scratched by a diamond or a product
containing the mineral corundum. If you see a
Tungsten piece that has carved details this
jewellery piece does not have Carbide - it is a
tungsten only piece. Therefore, it will scratch.
Should I be concerned with Cobalt in my jewelry?
YES, absolutely ! Many Tungsten and Tungsten
Carbide jewellery pieces have Cobalt in them.
Avoid Tungsten jewellery containing Cobalt as it
will cause skin allergies such as dermatitis and
ezcma. After a short time period the jewellery
piece will develop oxidation spots that cannot
be removed or polished out. This is due to the
Cobalt reacting to the human body. You can
easily prevent this from happening by purchasing
one of our Cobalt free Tungsten Carbide
jewellery range.
